BEST summer yet at ACCORD ISS!

Categories : Blog / News

Hello Accordions!

This summer has arguably been the BEST yet! It has been just over two weeks since we said goodbye and packed up the summer schools for another year. We are still recovering from all the fun we had so let’s reflect on the last few months.

Let’s start with the weather. It was the best we have had in years! For anyone who thought that the British weather was mainly wet, cold and dreary then they were wrong! Parts of the UK reached record breaking temperatures and the sun shone in Eastbourne, Fleetwood and Durham. This meant that we could take full advantage of the private sandy beach at Rossall school.  We took part in beach games and evening walks. At Barnard Castle because of the great weather we made full use of the first- class sports fields on those warm, balmy evenings. Likewise our Moira House Accordions enjoyed hikes around the beautiful South Downs. They also may have dipped their toes in the sea once or twice.

The glorious summer sunshine was also a bonus for our trips. This summer we added some new trips to our timetable including more visits to the vibrant city of Brighton. We visit Brighton every year and it’s always voted as one of our best trips. However, this year we added a special treat for our students and boarded the British airways i360 for the very first time and it was a big hit from both students and the ACCORD staff. The views are incredible!

Another new trip was on our schedule at Barnard Castle and Rossall school. We visited Keswick and Derwent Water in the Lake District. This part of the Lake District is a hub of outstanding natural beauty and the surprisingly fascinating pencil museum! Yes, pencils can be very interesting…

This summer was the second year for our summer school at Barnard Castle, or as some of our students call it – Hogwarts! Of course, we lived up to our reputation and visited Durham where some scenes from the Harry Potter films were shot.

We can’t talk about summer 2018 without mentioning the Paris Saint-Germain Academy England which we are so incredibly proud to be exclusively partnered with in the UK.  2018 was our biggest summer season in so many ways as we welcomed even more players, even more female players and the biggest variety of nationalities we have ever welcomed onto the Academy. We even had a special visit from our top Parisian coach Adrien who we loved welcoming back!
